Brain Camp Treatments

The qEEG (quantitative electroencephalogram)
What is it?

QEEG Brain Mapping is a procedure that records electrical activity within the brain.

Why is it important?
The qEEG provides "targeting" information. That is, it tells us where and under what conditions (reading, listening, math, etc.) the problem is worst. You can see exactly what part of the brain lags behind (doesn't show enough activity)or which parts are overactive. This analysis allows us to decide which tasks should be used in therapy.

How does it work?
We map the brain's activity (brain waves) by placing a cap over the head. Sensors on the cap pick up and amplify the vibrations of the brain. These vibrations are displayed as lines on a computer screen, and each line correlates to a specific part of the brain. By watching the activity of these lines, we can, in turn, analyze the brain's activity.

Integrated Listening System
What is it?
The iLs Program is a type of sound therapy that addresses your child's ability to process auditory information. The goal of sound therapy is to develop the building blocks of learning: the physiological systems which play a key role in our ability to receive, process, and express information.

Why is it important?
Auditory processing plays a large role in your child's ability to learn.

Imagine your child in a classroom setting.
Students listen as the teacher reads aloud from a textbook, explains a math problem or gives instructions. Students must process this auditory information and then take the next step:
- they discuss key concepts from the chapter
- they solve math problems on their own by following the given steps
- they must understand and remember the teacher's instructions in any number of situations.
Your child must be able to attend to, discriminate among or between, and recognize or understand auditory information.

When auditory skills are weak, learning is difficult.

How does it work?
At Brain Camp, we combine movement, listening and visual stimulation in each of our sessions. The combination of music with visual and movement exercises will re-train your child's brain to become more efficient and effective. In the process, neural connections strengthen and performance improves.

We use specially filtered music and uniquely designed headphones. Your child will listen to Mozart while performing physical activities such as juggling or balancing.

Neurofeedback/Biofeedback
What is it?
Neurofeedback is a technique to train the brain to regulate functions of body and mind.

Why is it important?
When the brain is not functioning optimally, mental and physical problems may arise. Many cognitive, emotional or bodily issues can be traced back to a poorly functioning brain. By training your brain to function better, you enable the brain to take better care of you.

How does it work?
Your child will sit in front of a computer monitor and, using nothing but the brain, control a video game or movie.

Having looked at your child's Brain Map, we will know which types of activities the brain has trouble producing, and we can target these activities.
It's a simple and fun process with profound results.
